The German armory Walther, more precisely Carl Walther, was founded by Carl Walther in 1886. For more than 140 years, it has been producing firearms for business and sports use. The original factory in Zella-Mehlis (near Suhl in Thüringen) was abandoned after the division of Germany, and the armory has been based in Ulm (Baden-Württemberg) since the 1950s.
Walther's fame began with the launch of the PP model (Polizei Pistole) and especially the PPK model (Polizei Pistole Kriminalmodell), that became an iconic weapon of Agent 007. Another renowned model is the Walther P38, infamous in the hands of members of the Wehrmacht, but serving also in a light version of the P-1 in the Bundeswehr until the 90s. In 1993, Walther became part of the Umarex Group. Walther also manufactures modern service pistols, especially from the PPQ and PPS series, while Umarex offers their airsoft and gas variants. Walther has also been focusing on sport shooting for a long time and therefore offers specially modified sport variants of the originally service PPQ model and also offers a range of top sports air and small arms weapons for the Olympic disciplines.
